That’s why Smart Boy Entertainment is led by a team of globally experienced business leaders – top-tier MBAs and Fortune 100 executives – who also happen to have a deep passion for helping artists turn their God-given talents into sustainable, lucrative careers. John Causey (Smart Boy CEO) and Lori Whitted Jordan(EVP Business Development) came together initially in 1994 as Capital Management Group in Washington, DC to manage well-known Old School R&B artists. In doing so, they encountered a number of gifted young artists and their families who were trying to figure out how to nurture and protect a budding career in an industry known for crushing the naïve. Thus, the vision for Smart Boy was born. John moved to Los Angeles and started POSH Entertainment in 2002 where he managed a number of successful artists who continue to thrive in the industry. Now, John and Lori have joined forces with Kevin Khao Cates and Claribel Cuevas who together represent an exceptional team of fresh marketing and music production professionals, to make the vision of becoming the premier talent management and development firm for young artists a reality in Smart Boy Entertainment

Working with young artists requires a patient, balanced perspective because not only are they growing and expanding rapidly as performers, but more importantly they are growing and maturing as individuals. Successful career development and management for these artists is a marathon. It involves a significant dedication of resources from Smart Boy in the early years when the financial rewards may still be quite low. However we are dedicated and committed to the long haul with everyone that we sign and we look for the same team-oriented, long-term loyalty from our artists and their parents. Smart Boy Entertainment believes that soliciting frequent parental input and approval is an important part of the management process for our young artists.

Most young artists don’t have the depth of precocious talent and drive required to be the next Michael Jackson. But if properly managed many young artists do have the potential to turn their talents into long-term careers that can provide them with a means of creative expression and financial sustainability throughout their careers.
